This guide helps candidates prepare for the OFAI Firefighter Aptitude and Character Test™ (FACT™) and understand what to expect before, during, and after assessment day.
Thank you for registering for an assessment with Ontario Fire Administration Inc. (OFAI).
This guide will help you prepare for your Stage One FACT™ assessment and understand the testing format, booking flow, and assessment-day requirements.
All assessment preparation, consent, communication, and results are managed through your OFAI candidate account.
Program Access
Your OFAI candidate account is your central point for completing consent, managing bookings, viewing certificates, and submitting questions or requests.
Account
Use your account to complete required consent and agreements before assessment day.
Bookings
For first-time entry testing, FACT is the anchor assessment and is booked on the same date as Hearing and ETT. FACT runs first, and the later same-day Stage Two sessions are matched around it.
Support
Log into your OFAI account, open Support, and submit the appropriate ticket. OFAI may respond in-platform and arrange a callback where appropriate.
Assessment Overview
The Firefighter Aptitude and Character Test™ is the Stage One written assessment used in entry-level firefighter recruitment. Review the format and candidate expectations carefully before your appointment.
The FACT™ includes 110 multiple-choice items and is weighted 45% aptitude and 55% character.
The assessment is completed in a proctored computer lab setting. Candidates have a maximum of three hours to complete it.
FACT™ results are reported as pass or fail. Successful certificates are uploaded to your OFAI account within three business days and remain valid for 24 months.
Assessment Day
Candidates should arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled FACT™ time. Check-in is verified against the registered booking in the candidate account.
Identification
Government-issued photo identification is required to check in for the assessment.
Timing
For first-time entry bookings, Hearing and ETT follow later on the same date. Arrive prepared for the full booked workflow shown in your account.
Results
Outcome updates and successful certificates are posted back to your OFAI account after processing.
Preparation
Use this checklist to prepare for assessment day and avoid preventable issues at check-in.
OFAI references the official FPSI orientation guide for extra preparation support. It includes an entry-level firefighter practice test with 40 multiple-choice questions.
Review the aptitude and character focus of the FACT™ so the assessment structure is familiar before you arrive.
Confirm your assessment date, start time, and any same-day linked sessions in your candidate account before travel.
Bring government-issued photo ID, your booking confirmation in your account, and any approved accommodation documentation tied to your appointment.
